SkyLara Canopy Intelligence
Last updated: 1 October 2026
1. Who we are
SkyLara Canopy Intelligence ("Canopy Intelligence", "we", "us") is a canopy flight analysis service available at canopy.skylara.co. It is part of the SkyLara platform and is operated by Start Tech Web Design LLC, Dubai, United Arab Emirates ("SkyLara").
This policy explains what personal data Canopy Intelligence collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. The wider SkyLara Privacy Policy covers the rest of the SkyLara platform.
Privacy contact: privacy@skylara.co
2. What the service does
Canopy Intelligence helps skydivers review their own recorded jumps. You upload flight data (for example FlySight GNSS files) and the service shows wing loading, manufacturer guidance, landing analysis and coaching context. It is a data review tool only. It does not replace canopy coaching, dropzone rules, traffic awareness, S&TA guidance or manufacturer guidance.
3. Data we collect
- Account data: your name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash) if you register with email.
- Google Sign-In data: if you choose Continue with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile picture and Google account identifier. See section 4.
- SkyLara account link: if you choose Continue with SkyLara, we receive your SkyLara account identifier, name and email.
- Jump and flight data you upload: GNSS track files, including position, altitude, speed and timestamps, and the analysis we derive from them.
- Videos you attach to a jump: landing or helmet videos you upload, with their file name, size, duration and the sync point you set. They may show you and anyone else in the picture — upload only video you have the right to share. They are private to your account and anyone you share that jump with, and are deleted when you delete the video, the jump or your account.
- Trip plans and weather watches: the drop zone, coordinates, timezone, travel dates and training context you enter; saved revisions of that plan; your watch and email preferences; and dated weather snapshots issued for your trip. Trips are private to your account. Weather sources receive only the location or municipality and requested weather dates, not your identity or training notes.
- Your canopy goal: the goal canopy and notes you enter in "My canopy journey", and the checklist items you tick.
- Canopy and equipment details you enter: canopy model and size, and exit weight used to calculate wing loading.
- Terms record (visitors and account holders): each time the Terms dialog is shown, and whether you accept or decline it — the Terms version, date and time, how (sign-up, sign-in or the dialog), your IP address, the country that IP address belongs to (looked up on our own server in the free IP Geolocation by DB-IP database — your IP address is not sent to anyone for this), browser, language and time zone, the page, and a random identifier stored in your browser that links these records to the same browser (and to your account if you sign in). We also record technical errors that stopped a choice from being saved. This is kept as evidence of what was shown to you and what you agreed to.
- Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, and essential cookies needed to keep you signed in and secure.
Jump files contain precise location data showing where and when you jumped. Upload only files you are comfortable storing with us.
4. How we use Google user data
When you sign in with Google we request only the basic openid, email and profile scopes. We use this data only to:
- create your Canopy Intelligence account and sign you in;
- show your name and picture in your account; and
- contact you about your account and the service.
We do not access your Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, calendar or any other Google data. We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or use it to train generalised AI or machine learning models. We do not share it with third parties except the service providers listed in section 6 that help us run the service.
Canopy Intelligence's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
5. Why we use your data
- To provide the service: storing your jumps and trip plans, running the analysis, showing results to you and providing the weather watches you enable (performance of our contract with you).
- To keep the service secure and working: fraud prevention, abuse detection and troubleshooting (our legitimate interests).
- To improve Canopy Intelligence: aggregated, de-identified usage statistics (our legitimate interests).
- To record that you accepted our Terms of Service, and to establish or defend legal claims (performance of our contract and our legitimate interests).
- To meet legal obligations where they apply.
Your jump data and trip plans are private to your account. We do not publish it or share it with a dropzone, coach or other user unless you choose to share it.
6. Who we share data with
We use trusted service providers that process data for us under contract, for hosting, storage, email delivery and authentication: Contabo GmbH (our servers in the European Union, which also run our database and the email server that sends account emails); Google LLC (Sign in with Google, only if you choose it); Esri and the OpenStreetMap Foundation (map imagery your browser loads); the NOAA Aviation Weather Center, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway, Frost observations and Locationforecast model forecasts) and Open-Meteo (weather for a jump or trip's time and place, which receive that location and time only); AEMET (official municipality forecasts when configured, receiving the selected municipality code without your identity or training notes); jsDelivr and unpkg (content-delivery networks that serve the map and chart code); YouTube (videos on the 270 Hub, in privacy-enhanced mode); and Have I Been Pwned (which receives only a short, anonymous fragment of a password hash to check it against known breaches). We may also disclose data if required by law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with notice to you. We do not sell personal data.
Community features (optional). Your profile is private by default. If you switch on a public profile, other signed-in pilots can see the details you choose to show (handle, display name, role, home drop zone, bio, follower count, and — only if you turn them on — your jump counts and current canopy), follow you and send you messages. If you also join the leaderboards, your handle and the leaderboard figures (for example your median consistency score or landing accuracy) are shown to other signed-in pilots. Messages are visible only to you and the person you are writing to. When you send a jump for review, that jump is shared with a read-only link and the reviewer can see it and leave notes until you stop sharing. You can switch any of this off, block or report a user, and download or delete your community data at any time; deleting your account deletes your profile, follows and messages.
7. International transfers
Your data may be processed outside your country, including in the European Union (our servers) and the United States (some of the providers listed above). Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
8. How long we keep data
We keep your account, jump data and saved trip plans while your account is active. Deleting a trip removes its saved revisions and weather-watch snapshots. Trip email summaries are off by default; you can turn them off in your trip preferences, and the account-wide email opt-out also applies. When you delete a jump it is removed from the service. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records by law. Backups are overwritten on a rolling cycle of up to 14 days.
Terms records are kept to establish, exercise or defend legal claims (our legitimate interest, and the performance of our contract with you). Records of accepting or declining the Terms are kept for 15 years from the date of the record — the general limitation period for civil claims under the law that governs our Terms (UAE Civil Transactions Law, Article 473) — and are then deleted automatically. Records that the Terms dialog was shown, and records of technical errors, are deleted automatically after 1 year. If you delete your account, these records are kept only in pseudonymised form: they are unlinked from your account and hold a one-way hash of your email address instead of the address itself, so they can be matched only if a claim is made.
9. Your rights and choices
- Access, correct, export or delete your data from your account settings or by emailing the privacy contact above.
- Remove Canopy Intelligence's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and complain to your local data protection authority.
Regional details (EU GDPR, UK DPA, US state laws) are at skylara.co/legal.
10. Security
We use encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls and monitoring to protect your data. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
11. Children
Canopy Intelligence is only for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date above and notify you in the service or by email.
